ABOUT THE ARTIST

Romaine McNeil is a Jamaican-based artist who uses brushstrokes, palette knives, and enigmatic concepts to transcend ordinary thinking and emotions into powerful, provocative images on canvas. She invites viewers to journey through the flow of emotions and ideas that stem from the subconscious; which challenges us to explore the poetic and sometimes raw nature of human experiences. Her artwork embodies the intricacies of human connection, stripping away the distortion of everyday life to reveal the raw truth of what lies beneath.
She is driven by a deep desire to break from the constraints of conventional thinking and perspectives and to explore what it truly means to be vulnerable. Her work is portal, a visual language that opens the floor for us to question our preconceptions about life and existence. The ability to create enables me to embrace the limitless potential of my imagination as it reflects and confronts the unexpressed truths of our reality.

What does Art mean?
"Art for me is a personal language that allows me and other artists to share our innermost personal thoughts and feelings. It allows me to explore many aspects of myself, identity, beliefs, and values while allowing others to share in the journey and experiences simultaneously. It’s therapeutic and cathartic, providing a foundation for me to explore complex ideas, philosophies, and social issues while breaking down barriers and challenging what is “normal.”
Art allows me to leave an impact on society, intentionally communicating messages that are both personal and universal, to inspire future generations to be bold and to thrive without limitations."
